LADY PIRATES LOSE THREE IN COLONIAL CHALLENGE

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –
The Hampton University volleyball team lost all three of its matches over the weekend at the William & Mary Colonial Challenge, falling to American on Friday before losing to William & Mary and Campbell on Saturday.

Sophomore Ornela Cadavid (Cali, Colombia) was named to the All-Tournament Team, recording 18 kills over three matches.

American defeated Hampton 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-15) on Friday, hitting .402 as a team with 48 kills and 13 errors in 87 total attacks. The Eagles hit a team-best .483 in the first set, recording 17 attacks and just three errors in 29 total attacks.

American also had seven service aces to Hampton's one.

The Lady Pirates (0-8) hit .051 as a team, recording 20 kills and 16 errors in 78 total attacks. Their best set came in the second, when they hit .167 (11 kills, six errors, 30 total attacks).

Senior Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) and freshman Ioana Kalfinova (Sofia, Bulgaria) each led the Lady Pirates with five kills. Cadavid had four kills and one error in 11 attacks for a hitting percentage of .273. Junior Lina Cordoba (Bogota , Columbia) had the team's lone service ace.

Junior Lihi Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) had all 17 of Hampton's assists, while sophomore Brittany Hill (Sacramento, Calif.) led the way with five digs on defense.

Juliana Crum led American (6-1) with 11 kills, while Bianca Richardson had 10.

William & Mary defeated Hampton 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-13) on Saturday behind the strength of 35 team kills. The Tribe only committed 10 errors in 71 attacks for a team hitting percentage of .352, and they had seven service aces. The Tribe hit .667 as a team in the first set, recording 12 kills and no errors on 18 total attacks.

The Tribe also hit .308 in the third set with 11 kills and three errors on 26 total attacks.

Hampton hit .000 as a team, with 23 kills and 23 errors in 82 total attacks. The Lady Pirates hit .040 in the second set, recording seven kills and six errors in 25 total attacks.

Harrison led the Lady Pirates with nine kills, while Cadavid hit a team-best .231 with six kills and three errors in 13 total attacks. Kalfinova and freshman Sheileen Pagan (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico) each had four kills.

Elkayam had 21 of the team's 23 assists, and Pagan had a team-high eight digs on defense.

Gina Lang and Shaylin O'Connell led William & Mary (3-3) with seven kills each. Celine Alasomuka led the way with three service aces.

Campbell defeated Hampton 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-14) in the Lady Pirates' final match of the tournament. The Fighting Camels (1-6) hit .278 as a team, recording 34 kills and just nine errors in 90 total attacks. Their best set came in the first, when Campbell hit .406 as a team with 15 kills and two errors in 32 total attacks.

Campbell also had a 10-4 advantage in service aces.

The Lady Pirates had 21 kills and 24 errors in 89 total attacks for a team hitting percentage of -.034. Their best set came in the second, when the Lady Pirates had eight kills and seven errors in 31 total attacks for a .032 hitting percentage.

Cadavid had a team-high eight kills, recording a team-best .312 hitting percentage thanks to just three errors in 16 attacks. Pagan added five kills for the Lady Pirates, and Harrison led the team with two service aces.

Elkayam recorded 16 of the team's 21 assists, while she also had a team-high 12 digs on defense. Hill added nine digs, while Kalfinova and Pagan each had six.

Allyson Goldbach led the Fighting Camels with 10 kills, while Kelsey Campbell had three service aces.

The Lady Pirates will return to action on Friday and Saturday, when they head to Buffalo, N.Y. for the University of Buffalo Tournament. Hampton will face St. Johns on Friday at 4:30 p.m., before taking on Buffalo at 11 a.m. and Binghamton at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
