Weekly Notes

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Hampton University volleyball team will compete in the Morehead State Eagle Challenge this Friday and Saturday in the Wetherby Gym, playing three matches over the course of two days.

The Lady Pirates will take on Campbell on Friday at 4:30 p.m., before taking on the host Golden Eagles at 1:30 p.m. and West Virginia at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Hampton (4-2) is off to its best start to a season since 2005, after the Lady Pirates went 1-2 in the Boston College Invitational this past weekend -- beating Bryant in four sets, but falling to Fairfield and the host Eagles.

	Junior rightside Vendula
Vendula Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) was named to the All-Tournament Team after recording 57 kills for the weekend, hitting .260. She also had seven service aces, nine total blocks, and 26 digs in those three matches. She also recorded two double-doubles, giving her three for the season.

So far this season, Strakova leads the nation in points, tallying 6.57 per set, and she is fourth in the nation in kills with 5.39 per set. She has totaled 124 kills in 23 sets played so far this season, and Strakova has recorded double-digit kills in all six of Hampton's matches.

Strakova is also eighth in the nation in service aces (0.70 per set).

	Senior middle blocker
Petra Parros (Bloomfield, N.J.) is 32nd in the nation in hitting percentage, thanks to her MEAC-best .429. Parros, who was named to the All-Tournament Team at the season-opening NCCU Invitational, hit a season-best .750 against Evansville on Aug. 31.

The Lady Pirates are represented in the team rankings as well, sitting 29th nationally in kills with a MEAC-best 14.26 per set. Hampton is also 49th in the nation in hitting percentage, hitting .264 as a team after six matches.

That mark also leads the conference.

Through two weeks, Hampton is one of just two MEAC programs to sit above .500; Howard is 4-3 on the young season. Every other MEAC program has a losing record so far, and five teams – Maryland Eastern Shore, Delaware State, South Carolina State, Savannah State, and North Carolina Central – are still looking for their first win of 2013.

The Lady Pirates are 0-4 all-time against Campbell, and the two teams last met in 2011, with Campbell winning in straight sets.

Hampton never faced Morehead State or West Virginia.
