hampton, va. -- Hampton University women's soccer team returns to action with a two-game week this week starting at 4pm Tuesday when they face Mount St. Mary's in Emmittsburg, Md.
This will be the first-ever meeting between Hampton and Mount St. Mary's. The Mountaineers are 3-6-1 on the year after losing 1-0 to Central Connecticut State on a goal in the last 21 seconds. Chloe Cain, Jaylyn Chandler and Jenna West lead the team in goals scored with two apiece.
Hampton enters this matchup with a 2-3-1 record after a 5-2 win on September 26 against Lincoln University. In that game, sophomore
Sydney Jackson recorded the first hat-trick in program history with three second-half goals.
Terisha Simmons (2g, 1a) and
Jordan Crawford (2g) are next in scoring for the Lady Pirates.
On Saturday, the team will visit Harrisonburg, Va. to take on the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University. This will be another first-time matchup as Eastern Mennonite will play a game on Wednesday against Randolph-Macon College before hosting Hampton.
EMU enters this week with a 5-4-1 record and is topped by freshman Laura Rittenhouse with eight goals in nine games played. Four teammates are tied with two goals apiece in freshmen Ariel Barbosa and Shayila Oswald along with juniors Sara Shenk Moreno and Hannah Walker.
