HAMPTON, Va. -- The Hampton University volleyball team heads to Lynchburg this weekend to participate in the Liberty Invitational held at the Vines Center on the Liberty University campus this weekend.
Hampton (0-2) will open the event at 4:30 pm Friday afternoon taking on East Tennessee State (3-0) . On Saturday, the Lady Pirates will take on the host Flames (0-3) at 12:30 pm and then take on USC Upstate (0-4) at 4:30 pm.
Last year Hampton opened its season in the Liberty Invitational and lost three games to Liberty, Fairleigh Dickinson and UNC Greensboro.
Hampton leads the MEAC averaging 3.00 blocks per set which ranks them 22
nd nationally.
Lena Washington was named to the All-Tournament team at Temple averaging 2.17 kills per set.
Reeana Richardson leads the team averaging 3.0 kills per set.
Scouting ETSU
The Buccaneers won their home tournament last week with sweeps of Austin Peay, Troy and USC Upstate. ETSU won the only other matchup with Hampton in the 2010 season 3-0. The Buccaneers are picked fifth in the Southern Conference.
Scouting Liberty
Liberty (0-3) lost its three matches in the Kennesaw State Tournament, with two coming to Power Five schools Pittsburgh and Missouri. The Flames lead the Big South averaging 2.50 blocks per set . Indivdually, Sirena Vorster leads the team averaging 1.70 blocks per set. Liberty leads the all-time series with Hampton 11-0.

Scouting USC Upstate
USC Upstate lost all four matches in the ETSU Tournament last weekend. Emily Koelling leads the team averaging 2.06 kills per set, while Madison Haake is tied for the national lead with a pair of triple-doubles this season. USC Upstate leads the all-time series with Hampton 2-0.
Hampton will make a trip to North Carolina next weekend as they'll head to Greensboro for the Aggie-Spartan Invitational facing North Carolina A&T State, Radford and UNC Greensboro.
