HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men's basketball team learned its second round opponent today for the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament second round game and it's a familiar one.
Hampton (16-16) will host Big South Conference rival Charleston Southern (18-15) on Tuesday night at 7 pm. The Pirates enter the game after holding off St. Francis College (NY) 81-72 to win the Coach John McLendon Classic as part of the opening round of the CollegeInsider.com event.
These teams met on January 10 inside the HU Convocation Center in the first Big South men's basketball game for the Pirates. Hampton used a 23-2 run in the second half to score a 94-82 win rallying from a 12-point early second half deficit.Â
Jermaine Marrow paced four in double figures with 35 points as Hampton went 21-of-32 (65.6%) in the second half from the floor.
Charleston Southern defeated Florida Atlantic at home 68-66 for its first-ever post-season victory. Christian Keeling and Dontrell Shuler paced the Buccaneers with 17 points each.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or by calling the Hampton University Ticket Office on Monday at 757-727-6828.Â
The 26-team CIT field is made up of non-Power 5 programs, not selected to participate in the NCAA or NIT (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC-12 and SEC teams are not considered). All games are played on campus sites.
