HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University head men's basketball coach Edward "Buck" Joyner, Jr. announced on Friday three transfers that will join the Pirate family for the 2021-22 season.
"The three young men that will join us in the fall all have a winning pedigree not only on the court, but off of it as well. I am looking forward to coaching them this upcoming season," said Joyner.
Johquin "Pinky" Wiley – 5-11/175 – Chesterfield, Va./Delaware State
At Delaware State: 10.2 points, 3.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game – third team All-MEAC.
He scored a season high 29 points against Norfolk State (Jan. 17), dished out seven assists against Manhattan (Dec. 30) and hauled in seven rebounds against Coppin State (Jan. 5). Wiley tied for team lead with 35 3-pointers.Â
Joyner on Wiley: He reunites with Rio Haskett as they both played on a state championship L.C. Bird High School team. Pinky is a pure point guard that we expect to come in and contribute as a winner and a leader immediately. A Virginia standout that we feel will join a long line of stellar players from the state that we have had here.
Rio Haskett – 6-3/195 – Chesterfield, Va./Harvard
At Harvard (2019-20): Averaged 6.2 points per game scoring a career high 19 at Columbia and had 14 on three occasions. His father played locally at Warwick High School and played collegiately under Edward Joyner, Sr. at St. Paul's. Haskett graduates this year from Harvard.
Joyner on Haskett: We are expecting big things from him.  His leadership, basketball IQ and game should help us get back to that championship level with his experience on and off the court from Harvard.    His father played at Warwick High School and then for my father at St. Paul's, so he's familiar with us and our style of play.
DeAngelo Epps – 6-5/200/College of Charleston/Charlotte
At College of Charleston (2020-21): Played in 19 games in 2020-21 averaging 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds…scored 11 points against Northeastern (Jan. 16)
Joyner on Epps: He is another young man who we feel will contribute immediately and is an ultimate competitor. Epps is extremely versatile on the floor, can guard three positions, and will bring that edge to us that our teams have been known for. He played on a nationally-ranked state championship team in high school and will be a key contributor this season.
