HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 8, 2023) … After a 92-80 loss over longtime rivals Howard, the Pirates return home to Convocation Center to Host Mid-Atlantic Christian. Thursday's matchup will mark the fifth every meeting between Hampton and the Mustangs. HU has had the edge in the series winning all four previous matchups.
A Look at Your Pirates
In Hampton's last time out they fell to last season's MEAC Tournament champions. Six of the Pirate's new additions appeared in Monday night's contest. Tedrick Wilcox Jr. led the way for the Pirates on offense producing 24 points. Wilcox Jr. was lights out from beyond the arc shooting a perfect 6-6. The Pawtucket, R.I. native, also had a team-high three steals. 8 Kyrese Mullen started his sophomore campaign with a solid performance. Mullen finished the game with 14 points while shooting 70% from the field. His 14-point performance would be the eighth game in his career with ten or more points.
The Pirates so far this season play at one of the fastest paces in all of Division I. HU currently sits 14th in the country in tempo. Hampton's 31 fast break points rank them among the top ten in the NCAA for fast break points. While Coach Joyner Jr.'s squad committed 17 turnovers, they would force 21 leading to 26 points. The Pirates also led the Coastal Athletic Association in steals with 12.

A Look at the Mustangs
Mid-Atlantic Christian will be playing their third game in four days on Thursday. The Mustangs have already faced one Division I opponent so far this season in Liberty. The Flames came out on top 103-43. Freshman Carter Robertson led Mid-Atlantic Christian in scoring with nine points. In their season opener against Carolina University, sophomore Joshua Tyler almost had a double-double scoring 33 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
The Mustangs are coached by Charles Sims who enters his second season. During his first season with the program Mid-Atlantic Christian posted a record of (12-11). Prior to becoming the head coach, Sims served as an assistant for the Mustangs for eight seasons.
