Hampton Women’s Soccer Gear Up for CAA Match With UNC Wilmington

HAMPTON, Va. (September 13, 2023) … Hampton University women's soccer continues conference play Thursday evening against the UNC Wilmington Seahawks. The last matchup between these two squads would be decided by a goal. Fans will be available to watch the match on FloFC.

A Look at Your Lady Pirates

The Lady Pirates fell to the Seawolves of Stony Brook their last time out. A late first-half goal by Madisyn Strange cut SBU's lead down to one. Strange's goal in the 44th minute would be the first of her collegiate career. With the offense creating limited chances in the final half, Hampton could not complete the comeback.

Hampton continues to be one of the more physical teams in the CAA. Through eight games the Lady Pirates have committed a total of 95 fouls. While HU leads the conference in fouls, they have only received the second most bookings.  Since the start of conference play,  Hampton has produced the sixth most goals in the conference.  The Lady Pirates goal average also has increased by almost half of a goal.

Scouting UNC Wilmington

The Seahawks enter the match with a (1-5-0) record. Their only win of the season came against Queens back in the beginning of September. UNCW is coached by Chris Neal who enters his sixth season under the helm. Under Neal, the program was crowned 2021 CAA Regular Season Champions. Throughout his six seasons with the program, the Seahawks have had two players drafted to the National Women's Soccer League.

UNC Wilmington's offense this season has been led by Viktoria Hankova, Taylor O'Brien, and Makaya Parham. Parham is the only senior that has found the back of the net this season. The Seahawks have a young roster with over 50 percent of the team being a freshman or sophomore. UNCW's go-to goalkeeper this season has been Hannah Wise. Wise has started every game during the 2023 campaign and has faced 77 shots.
