Hampton Volleyball Back on the Road Against Charleston

HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 31, 2024) … The Lady Pirates hit the road to face the Charleston Cougars in a two-game series. The first match against the Cougars is set to begin Friday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 p.m. with the series concluding on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2:00 p.m. In the series' short history, Charleston has a 3-0 advantage. 

In thier last time out, Coach Ronaldo Pacheco's side fell to Campbell in both matches. In the first contest, the Lady Pirates narrowly lost in five sets to the Camels.  Hampton took the first frame but found themselves trailing 2-1 heading into the fourth stanza. With Madison Clark and Shachia Lamb providing offense for HU, Coach Pacheco's squad won the fourth set 31-29. The final frame was close throughout with multiple lead changes. After the Lady Pirates took the advantage 15-14, Campbell tallied three consecutive points. Freshman Ida Wiszomirska finished the contest with a career-high 31 assists. During the second match, Hampton took the second set tying the Camels 1-1. Campbell went on to take the next two frames winning the match. 

Since the start of Coastal Athletic Association play, Clark has been one of the Lady Pirates' top offensive threats. In the 12 conference contests, Clark's 98 kills is a team-high. In the first match against the Camels, the Hampton Va. native, tallied a season-high 24 kills. Kylah Hunter has led the way for the Lady Pirates on the defensive end. The senior has produced 237 gigs this season through 24 matches. 

Charleston is coached by Jason Kepner who is in his 18th season at the helm. Throughout his tenure, the Cougars have consistently won 20-plus matches. Kepner has hit this mark in over 55 percent of his seasons coached. Heading into this weekend's contests, Charleston is tied for first with a 17-8 overall record and is 9-3 in the conference. 

Charleston's Emily Banitt is one of the CAA's top offensive players. The Prescott, Wis. native, sits fourth in the conference with 301 kills. Over half of her total kills in the 2024 campaign have come during CAA play. Setter Hannah Scott is a crucial player for the Cougars. The sophomore with 819 assists ranks second in the conference and 32nd in the country. In the past 11 contests, Scott has recorded 30 or more assists.
