Hampton University Women’s Soccer Returns Home to Powhatan Field Hosting Lincoln

HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 11, 2024) … The Lady Pirates return home to Powhatan Field hosting Lincoln out of the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference. Hampton during its five-game road stint earned their first win of the 2024 campaign. The Lions began their season last week and started off the season with a 3-2 win over Wheeling. Friday's match is set to begin at noon and will be streamed on FloSports. 

A Look at the Lady Pirates

Hampton fell 3-0 to Longwood in its last time out. In the first half of the match, HU was able to keep the Lancers off the scoreboard. Freshman Kaitlyn Howell made five saves in the first 45 minutes. The Pellham, N.Y. native, finished the contest with a career-high nine saves. In the opening moments of the second half, the Lady Pirates offense manufactured a shot at the bottom center of the goal. Zaria Ascue's shot would be saved by the Longwood's goalkeeper. The Lancers found the back of the net at the 50th-minute mark, Longwood scored two more times before the end of the contest.

Through six matches, the Lady Pirates have matched its goal total from last year finding the back of the net eight times this season. Hampton's goal-scoring efforts have come from the whole team with eight different student-athletes producing a goal. In the program's nine years of existence, the Lady Pirates have never had eight different goal scorers in a season. Out of Hampton's goal scorers, Nylah Jennings and Sofia Jimenez have both recorded an assist this season

A Look at the Lions

Lincoln is coming off a 1-11-2 season and went 0-8 in the ECC. The 2024 season will be their first in the CACC. The Lions started off the 2024 campaign with a win over Wheeling 3-2.  Adiaha Witherspoon, Jordan Allison, and Keilani Broadnax all found the back of the net in the season opener.  In the Lion's most recent match, they defeated Salem 2-0. Sal Minor coaches Lincoln, who enters his third season with the program. 

Heading into the 2024 campaign, Lincoln returned its top two goal scorers. Both Allison and Broadnax who were freshmen, scored a team-high three goals in 2023. Currently this season, Coach Minor's squad leads the CACC in assists per game averaging two per match. The Lions also lead their conference for points per game.  So far this season Broadnax has scored a team-high three goals.
