HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 14, 2025) … Hampton University men's basketball continues its four-game home stint against Hofstra. The Pirates have now won back-to-back games and sit ninth in the Coastal Athletic Association standings. Heading into the final 

ABOUT THE SERIES

Hampton has never defeated the Hofstra Pride. The most recent meeting during the 2023-24 campaign happened inside the Convocation Center. The Pirates cut the Pride's lead down two at the 1:49 mark in the second half. Both teams struggled on the offensive end. Hofstra put the contest out of reach with a pair of free throws winning 63-59.

ABOUT HAMPTON


Coach Ivan Thomas's side defeated Drexel 63-58 this past Thursday night. The Pirates had the advantage on the glass out-rebounding the Dragons 42-32. Both Kyrese Mullen and Noah Farrakhan led Hampton on the offensive end scoring 18 points. Mullen in his third straight start helped HU's rebounding efforts with 12 boards. The Norfolk, Va. native, also finished the game with a career-high five assists.

Heading into the final month of the season, the Pirates have been one of the top rebounding teams in the nation. On average, Hampton is grabbing 13.3 offensive rebounds per contest ranking 29th in the country. Coach Thomas's squad has out-rebounded their opponent in 16 games this season. HU's defense is producing 7.3 steals per contest which is the second most in the conference. 

ABOUT HOFSTRA

The Pride enters Saturday's game on a four-game losing streak. Hofstra currently sits 12th in the conference standings but is only one game behind Hampton. The Pride are coached by Speedy Claxton who is in his fourth season at the helm. Claxton played for Hofstra and helped them to an NCAA Tournament. Under Claxton's tenure, the Pride has had three consecutive 20-win seasons.

Hofstra is one of the better defensive teams in the conference holding opponents to 38.8 percent shooting from the field. The Pride conference foe Northeastern to 37 points. In nine CAA contents, Hofstra has held its opponent to 70 or fewer points. Both Jean Aranguren and Cruz Davis are the offensive leaders for Coach Claxton's side. Davis's14.9 points per game is 12th in the league and Aranguren is right behind producing 14.8 points per contest.
