HAMPTON, Va. (Aug. 29, 2025) … The Hampton Pirates women's soccer team returns to the 757 this weekend for a Saturday evening match with Bluefield State at Powhatan Field in Norfolk. First-kick is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Hampton (1-2) hits the home pitch after a 4-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday afternoon.
Mattie Edozie scored the first goal of the match at 42:09 to put the Pirates up 1-0.
Madisyn Strange found the back of the net three times in the second half, two of those in a 33 second span, for the fourth hat trick in program history and the first against a NCAA Division I opponent. Strange started the scoring 71 seconds into the half and found it again just 33 seconds later. She closed out the scoring with her third at the 63:47 mark for the eventual 4-0 final.
For the day, Hampton held a 36-3 advantage in shots which is the second most in a game in school history and the most against a NCAA Division I opponent. The Pirates defense kept UAPB without a shot in the second half.
ABOUT HAMPTON
- Strange is tied Reilly Rich of Stony Brook and Summer Reimet of Monmouth for the CAA lead in goals scored with three. As of August 28, she's the only player in the CAA to record a hat trick.
- Strange also leads the league in points scored with six and has the most points in a single-game in the league.
- Jayda Sutton has two assists for the Pirates and she's tied for sixth in the CAA in that category.
- Avery John is second in the league in saves per game with four per contest.
ABOUT BLUEFIELD STATE
- Bluefield State was 3-6-3 in 2024 and this contest will be an exhibition game for the Big Blue as their season begins the following weekend.
- Carmen Galante is the leading returning scorer as she topped the team in 2025 with four goals and one assist for nine points. Also returning is Sayen Santana who was right behind her with three goals and one assist for seven points.
- Kaycee Coty had a .748 save percentage last season and returns in the net for Bluefield State.
