HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 4, 2025) … The Hampton Pirates women's soccer team starts a four-match homestand over the next two weeks as they'll entertain Lincoln (Pa.) on Friday at noon.
Hampton starts the homestand after a tough 1-0 loss on Tuesday to Chicago State. The Pirates outshot the Cougars 31-8, but the Cougars found a goal at 42:14 of the first half and made that stand.
Last year against Lincoln,
Ellen Van Caenegem and
Sanaa Perry tallied a goal apiece in a 2-0 win. The Pirates outshot the Lions 17-4 in the match and held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.
ABOUT HAMPTON
Madisyn Strange and
Nylah Jennings are tied for third in the league with three goals apiece. Those two are also tied for seventh in points per game (1.20).
Jayda Sutton leads the Pirates in assists with two, while
Keri Geter and
Evan-Nichole Whitaker have one each.
Avery John is second in the league in saves per game with 3.60 per contest and shares the league lead for saves in a single game with eight against Howard.
Hampton has the top three shot totals in a game this season in the league with 36 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 35 against Bluefield State and 31 against Chicago State.
ABOUT LINCOLN
Lincoln was 3-12 last season and 0-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. Â This will be the season opener for Lincoln who will next face Delaware State on September 13.
The Lions return four of their top seven scorers with Jordan Allison leading with two goals and four points. Joining her is Brianna Poullard (1g, 2a, 4pts), Adiah Witherspoon (1g, 1a, 3pts) and Chelsea Edwards (1g, 2pts).
Lincoln returns both goalkeepers from 2004 as Ariel Reyes played in 10 matches in goal last year with a 3.83 goals-against average and a save percentage of .507. Neveah Washington played in eight matches with 26 saves.
CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Strange became the first Hampton Pirate to earn CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors in program history on Monday as she won the honor after recording the first hat-trick against a Division I opponent in program history at Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 4-0 win on August 26. She scored all three in the second half and two of those in the span of 33 seconds to open the second half.

Scot Vorwold won the 100th match of his coaching career. The Chicago State match was the 200th of his coaching career (100-91-9).
MAKING A STATE-MENT
The Pirates cover a lot of states, literally and naming wise with their non-conference schedule this season. They'll face Bluefield (State), Delaware (State), Chicago (State), Virginia (State), South Carolina (State) and Grambling (State).
