(August 21, 2026) … The Hampton University women's soccer team heads to our nation's capital for its next match as the Pirates face arch-rival Howard in the second annual HBCU Women's Soccer Invitational at Audi Field on Saturday. Match time for the "Battle of the Real HU" is set for 3 p.m.

ABOUT HAMPTON
- Hampton returns 14 players from last season under first-year head coach Sam Cain.
- Nylah Jennings, who was named to the Preseason Honorable Mention All-CAA team, was the leading scorer last season with five goals and two assists for 12 points.
- Hampton played its first match in program history against a Power Four school to open the season in a 2-1 loss at Indiana on August 12.
- As a team, the Pirates return 77% of their goals and 73% of their assists.
ABOUT HOWARD
- The Bison opened their season on Wednesday night with a 0-0 draw against George Washington. Howard was outshot 13-9, while goalie Trinity Knox made nine saves.
- Knox is all over the Howard Record Book with 235 career saves, 24 wins and 14 of those being shutouts.
- Demi Owens is the leading returning scorer for Howard with nine points (four goals and one assist)
- Last season Howard was 9-7-3 and 7-2-2 in the Northeast Conference falling in the conference semifinals.
FRESHMAN MAKES STRONG DEBUT
Freshman
Jackie Jenkins got her first collegiate start against Temple on August 15 making three saves. The newcomer from New Hill, N.C. has played in both Hampton matches thus far with three saves each against Indiana and Temple and a 1.41 goals against average after the first week.
HAMPTON VS. NORTHEAST CONFERENCE
The Pirates have faced off against three members of the Northeast Conference in the 11-year history of Hampton soccer and all three were on last year's schedule. Hampton dropped a 1-0 decision at Chicago State, lost 4-1 to Howard in the inaugural HBCU Women's Soccer Invitational and tied Delaware State 2-2.
NEW LOOKS – BIG 10, AMERICAN and ATLANTIC 10
Hampton's opening week slate puts the Pirates in a new spot with first-ever matchups against a Big 10 member and an American Conference member. Wednesday's Indiana contest was also the first time the Pirates faced a Power Four opponent in program history. The Pirates will also face Atlantic 10 member George Mason on September 13 for the first match against a member of the Atlantic 10.
PEACE AND JENNINGS BACK AT IT
Caitlyn Peace and
Nylah Jennings, two of the leading scorers from last season, were joined by newcomer
Sierra Bartley for the lone Hampton tally against Indiana on August 12. Jennings and Bartley assisted Peace who found the back of the net in the 71
st minute in the 2-1 loss to the Hoosiers.
TWO OF THREE NEWCOMERS TO SLATE
Hampton's opening week matchups against Indiana and Temple, along with a September 13 contest at George Mason provide the first-ever matchups against those opponents.
