2005 • JUNIOR SEASON
Saw action in a total of seven games… finished the season with nine total tackles, including seven solo stops, and four pass breakups… matched his career-high with two pass breakups at Bethune-Cookman… registered a season-high two tackles in games against Jackson State, Morgan State and Savannah State.

2004 • SOPHOMORE SEASON
Played in all 12 games for HU, while making the start in nine of those contests … Derius became one of the most exciting players to watch on defense … Finished the season ranked eighth on the squad in total tackles with 35 to his credit … Picked up 17 solo stops and 18 assisted tackles … Posted one tackle behind the line of scrimmage … Tied for the lead on the team in interceptions with four to his credit … Second on the team with 10 pass breakups … Tallied a career-high six tackles (four solo) in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs at William & Mary … Also picked up one interception returned for 20 yards in that game … Picked up five tackles (three assists) in the New York Urban League Classic against Morgan State … In that same contest, Swinton picked off one pass, broke up one pass and registered his only blocked kick of the season.

2003 • FRESHMAN SEASON
Saw action in 11 games for the Pirates in his freshman season … Spent most of the campaign playing on special teams … Recorded three solo tackles and three assists for a total of six tackles on the year … Posted three solo tackles at Bethune-Cookman … Broke up one pass.

THOMAS DALE HIGH SCHOOL
Guided the Knights to a combined 23-3 record during his junior and senior seasons … Advanced to the State Semifinals in 2002 after reaching the Championship in 2001 … Started as a free safety and quarterback as a senior … Team captured the District and Regional championship in 2002 … District Player of the Year … Named Second Team All-State … Selected as an All-Metro performer … Also lettered in basketball where he led the Knights in scoring at 18 points per game … He was a member of the National Honor Society.
